How it works

  1. Submit your application

After you submit your application for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits and VA finds you eligible, you will receive a Certificate of Eligibility.

  2. Bring certificate

Bring this certificate to your participating institution’s financial aid, military liaison, or other office as determined by your school, and ask to apply to your school’s Yellow Ribbon Program.

  3. Receive determination

Your school will determine whether it has already enrolled the maximum number of participants for the program period. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. Your school and VA will have agreed on how many students may be covered each year.

  4. Receive notice

You will receive notice from your school about whether you have been accepted to the program and about the application of the benefit to your tuition.

  5. Confirm and coordinate

Confirm that your school will submit your enrollment information to VA, and coordinate with VA for the application of the benefit to your tuition or fees.
